Birthday Present

Ok so I’m a little late with this post…it really shouldn’t surprise anyone. I went to a staff crop at Scrap Arts on Friday night and started work on a project for my husband’s birthday present. It took a lot longer to finish than I thought it would. I got the main part of the collage done on Friday night. Then on Saturday morning I found a great frame at a thrift store for only $5.00 but it wasn’t exactly the right color or size. So I spent Saturday afternoon working on the frame and expanding the collage a bit. His birthday isn’t until tomorrow but we had his party last night and I wanted to be able to give him this at the party.

I printed these old mining pictures off on matte photo paper and aged them by tearing them and using distress inks (scattered straw, vintage photo & walnut stain). I colored the larger picture of the miner panning for gold with my prisma markers. Although it is hard to see in the picture I also glued some craft sand and used some gold leaf foil in his gold pan. I also put the gold leaf foil in 3 of the other gold pans. I sanded the frame but did not remove all the navy blue paint from it. I then used a vintage photo ink and another bottle of ink spray to stain the frame. I also added bits of gold to the frame. The small metal frame at the bottom is from a Tim Holtz set. I will post the rest of the details later.

So I guess this is project #3 of #30

Thanks for stopping by!

Until next time, happy crafting everyone!

Tim Holtz Inspired Tag

So here is project #2 of 30, it is a tag for my new class. I do realize that this challenge would not be much of a challenge for some people. However, for me I’m just not able to sit down every day and craft something. I really like to procrastinate, for example my new class “Aged & Distressed” is scheduled for this Saturday and here I am just finishing the last project in this class. So this is really going to be a challenge for me. I also have a few birthdays coming up as well as a camping trip and more classes.

I just love the Tim Holtz products and I am getting a good collection of them now. I have also been watching his tutorial videos on his website. I love all the great tags he makes and decided to try one. I am quite happy with how it turned out. I started with peeled paint on a piece of plastic and spayed it with some water and dyed the white tag green and then dried it with my heat gun. I stamped the floral background with walnut stain distress ink, the bird is done with Momento tuxedo black and the butterflies are done with peeled paint. I then sponged on broken china, spiced marmalade & vintage photo. I used a glue pen to add some gold leaf foil accents to the bird and the flowers. It does not show up very well in the photo but there is quite a bit of gold on there.
Well that’s all for tonight. I hope to have another project ready to post on Friday.

Until then, happy crafting everyone and thanks for visiting my blog.

Everyone Loves A Challenge....Right?

I've decided to challenge myself. I'm hoping it will get me motivated to get some work done in my craft studio. The challenge is to create at least 30 new projects and post them between now (well August 1st) and September 15th. The projects can be anything I want, for example a card, tag, mini book, or whatever else I decide to design.

I need to design new classes for October for Scrap Arts. I also need to design some more cards for Big Pete’s (this is where I sell my cards) and the supply there is getting low.

I figured the only way I would be motivated enough to do all this is to put the challenge here in print and force myself to do it. As part of the challenge I also have to post the photos to my blog. I do have a few people who actually check in and read my blog (even though I don’t seem to have any official followers…LOL) so I know someone will be keeping tabs on my progress. This will keep me motivated to keep on creating.

Here is my first project. It is a birthday card I made on Sunday for my sister in law’s birthday. The stamps I used for this project come from the Water lily stamp set by Flourishes, Flights of Fancy stamp set by Tim Holtz and the Happy Birthday stamp is from one of the $1.50 stamp sets from M’s.

The water lily was stamped with Momento Tuxedo Black and was colored in with prisma markers. I actually remembered to write the colors down this time. For the flower petals the colors are Pale Peach, Light Peach & Peach. The center of the flower is done with Deco Yellow & Jasmine. The lily pads were done with Mint Cream, Green Tea & Spring Green.

I used Hazel and Mocha Devine card stock and the patterned paper is from the Basic Grey Cappella line. The back sides of Bravo and Sonata. I stamped a verse from the Tim Holtz set over the pink patterned paper with Tattered Rose distress ink. Other inks used are Tumbled Glass and Vintage Photo distress inks, also versa magic jumbo java, sea breeze, pink grapefruit & Pixie dust.

My photo is a little blurry but the card turned out really nice and my sister in law loved it!

Well I guess I better get back in my studio and get busy. I will be back tomorrow with something else to post… I hope.

Until then, Happy crafting everyone.

Isn't she cute!!!!

I just love taking pictures of Kit. She can be a very patient model most times. This time she just wanted to sniff the camera. Fortunately I always shut the flash off when she is around the camera. It has a very bright flash and I don’t want to bother her eyes. I do end up with some very dark or blurry pictures but I can usually fix most of it in photoshop.

Here is a picture I took on Canada Day. It is a little blurry but my zoom lens doesn’t have anti shake built in and neither do I (LOL), I also don’t have a tripod yet. Hmmm, I think I’ll put that on my wish list.

Well I’m off to my studio to pack up my stuff for the class I'm teaching tomorrow. Have a great Sunday everyone. Until next time, Happy crafting everyone!

Three down, one to go...

I finally made the third sample for my "Aged & Distressed" class.  I still need to make one more sample for this class.  I hope to be able to get it done this weekend.
For this card I used Bazzill card stock Palo Verde & French Vanilla.  The patterned paper I used was Basic Grey Cappella "Bravo". I tore it distressed it with Tim Holtz distress inks Tattered Rose & Peeled Paint.  I used the tattered rose ink to stamp a text stamp on the pink paper.  The pearls I used were white and I colored them a salmon pink prisma marker.
When Kit isn't "helping" me with my crafting she likes to stretch out and relax.  I couldn't resist snapping a quick pic of her.  She likes to sleep like this when it's really hot out.

Until next time, Happy Crafting everyone!

On a roll...

I love my new craft room so much I've been in there every chance I get.  Here are 3 more cards I made last week.  The first is done using the surfboard stamp by Local King.  The background which is hard to see in the photo is seashells out of the Crafty Secrets Seaside set.  The image has been colored with my prisma markers (sorry I have no idea which ones I used).
This card is the same layout as the Father's Day card I made last month but I changed it up just a bit and antiqued it more and it will be part of my Aged & Distressed class in August. The information for the stamps can be found in my June 20th post.  The Discover stamp is from a Jillibean Soup stamp set.  The Ink colors I used for distressing are Tim Holtz distress inks scattered straw, vintage photo and walnut stain.
This last card is a done with a flower stamp from the crafty secrets stamp set Wildflowers and the patterned paper is from the Kioshi line by Basic Grey.
Thanks for visiting my blog.  Until next time Happy Crafting everyone!!

When life gives you lemons.....

..make cards.  Well that is what you can do if you get lemon stamps too!!!  I made a set of cards with the Life, Love & Lemons stamp set by Flourishes.   I posted dates and times for the classes in a post on June 27th so you can check there for more info.  Of course I bought all these stamps at Scrap Arts.

The only stamp that is not from the Lemons set is the Hello stamp,  It is from the Greetings from Wonderland stamp set by Crafty Secrets.  The patterned paper on these cards is all the same and it is called Cabbage Rose by Girls Paperie.  The background on the Hello card was stamped with versamark.
The colors I used on the Lemons, life, love card were dandelion & pear tart by momento.  I love making my own patterned paper when I can't find anything else to go with my design.  (with the amount of patterned paper I have you wouldn't think that would be a problem, but trust me it is!!! LOL).  For the Got any Juice card I just followed the tutorial on Splitcoast stampers.  OK I think this post is full and it is time to start another one.  I'm sure it won't take me long to do.
Thanks for visiting my blog!!

Seashore Settings

Well my first class for these cards is filling up fast, but not to worry it is being offered a few times this summer.  Here are individual pictures of 3 of the cards in this class.

These cards have been done using 2 different stamp sets Seaside from Crafty Secrets & A Guiding Light from Flourishes.  I had fun making these cards, there is a lot of coloring involved and I used my watercolor pencils for most of it.

The striped patterned paper on this card is from the Capella line by Basic Grey.  Love, love, love this paper..

The third card is a CASE of one from Crafty Secrets. The sky is done with Momento ink, the water was done with a  brayer and a couple of colors of Color Box ink. I used watercolor pencils on the seashells.
Well that's it for now.  I'll post more in a day or two. Until then, Happy Crafting Everyone!!!

Happy Canada Day!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Canada Day celebration. I’m waiting for the fireworks. I can usually see them from my balcony so I don’t have to worry about heading out to find a good spot to watch them. I spent yesterday in my studio making cards. Of course I ran out of my favorite adhesive before I was finished. Then my other glue runner ran out as well.

I had to work today, but that is ok because I had to buy more adhesive and since I was working on a holiday I decided to treat myself to a few new inks and an embossing folder. Here is one of the cards I made yesterday. I think this one is cute for Canada Day. The stamp is from Bombshell stamps and I colored her with my Prisma markers. The card stock is bazzill vanilla and the patterned papers are by chatterbox ink Frosting Swirls and Candy Stripe. Well going to go watch the fireworks soon and hope Kit doesn’t get too freaked out by them.
Until next time, happy crafting everyone!!!

Birthday Book

I decided to put my Zutter to use a couple of weeks ago, and this is what I came up with.  It is a small birthday book.  Each page inside has a calender and a pocket to store a card in.  However, you could use it to keep coupons or tickets or whatever.  There is a page for each month of the year and a place to write important dates, birthdays, anniversaries etc.
The front and back cover are chipboard covered with patterned paper.  I love this paper from Prima, it is from the Watercolor Rainbow Collection and called Tropical Lagoon.  The waterlily stamp is from the stamp set Waterlily by Flourishes.  I colored it with watercolor pencils and the lily pads are painted in with dye ink and an aqua brush.  Inside I used a variety of stamp sets.
Also, Kit is really enjoying the new desk in my studio.  She doesn't look like it in this photo but she really likes all the extra roaming space.

Well back to my studio to see what else I can come up with for classes.  Happy Crafting!

Tim Holtz Alterations!!!

I love, love, love the alterations die cuts by Tim Holtz.  Here is my first project with the Hardware Findings die cut I bought at Scrap Arts the other day.  I had so much fun doing this card.  I cut the pieces out of chipboard and card stock and layered them together.  I used Java walnut stain, copper pigment ink and brown dye ink on the hardware pieces.  For the background paper I stamped the verse stamp (Art Life & Beauty by Hero Arts) on French Vanilla card stock and the distressed with Tim Holtz distress inks scattered straw, vintage photo and walnut stain.

Update on Father's Day card
I did not get a chance to finish this post yesterday so here are the details for the card I posted.  The background stamp for this card is a map stamp by All Night Media.  The ship and the greeting are from the stamp set A Guiding Light by Flourishes.  The ship was colored with prisma markers and the map was distress with Jumbo Java versa magic and brown momento ink.

Well time to go make some more cards.  Thanks for visiting my blog.
Happy Crafting
